cell phone etiquette

Cell phones have been an integral part of our lives for only ten years or so and social mores for their use are still developing. Many people find cell phone conversations and rings annoying but nobody wants to do without their own. It is useful to follow a few simple rules, particularly in the business context:

  • Switch off cell phones in the theater, concerts etc.
  • Be aware, that answering a cell phone in company e.g. during a meeting, signals that your priorities lie elsewhere
  • If calls are taken in company, move away from the group to continue the telephone conversation
  • Keep phone calls in public muted and short
