headset
A headset is a combination of microphone and a headphone. The single headphone allows the operator to hear what is going on in his/her surroundings with the other ear. The headset is fixed so that the microphone is always located at the same distance from the mouth which ensures consistent sound quality.
Headsets are used in call centers and switchboards and allow hands-free operation of the telephone.
