open plan office
The introduction of the open plan office, a large room accommodating a number of work places divided only by partitions, plants or office furniture, is attributed to the Bauhaus architect, Mies van der Rohe. Open plan offices are said to encourage better communication, closer working relationships and increased social interaction with colleagues and thus to increase productivity. However, critics claim that lack of privacy and increased distraction can make workers less efficient.
