Web directories are link lists which are checked, evaluated and classified by editors. They are published both online and in book form. The selection which they offer is not as wide as the selection offered by search engines but the average quality is much higher. The most comprehensive web directory is the Open Directory Project which is edited by volunteers in many different languages.
