The outerlying areas of Neustadt, featuring a wide range of fashionable oubs, small theatres and shops is the largest extant district in Europe built in the boom years of the late nineteenth century (in German known as the Gründerzeit).
Neustadt and the city’s old town are linked by the Augustus Bridge from where you can enjoy a wonderful panorama of Dresden’s historic centre with all its sights such as the Semper Opera, the Zwinger, the Hofkirche church, the palace, the Brühlsche Terrace and the Frauenkirche church. At the foot of the Brühlsche Terrace is the mooring point for the Elbe steam ships. This fleet of white boats is the the oldest and largest paddle steamer fleet in the world.
